Container Kitchens, Container Bars, Food Trailers,
Coolroom Trailers & Ice-Room Trailers
Five mobile food and beverage solutions — container kitchens, container bars, food trailers, coolroom trailers, and ice-room/freezer trailers — deployable anywhere in Australia. Designed for festivals, events, pop-up venues, mining and remote sites, dark kitchens, markets, weddings, and catering operations. Commercial-grade equipment, ventilation, plumbing, and refrigeration. Branded exteriors and serving windows. Hire or purchase.
Container kitchens, container bars, food trailers, coolroom trailers, and ice-room trailers — all built to your specification. No off-the-shelf catalogue. Every project is custom.
Where containers need a crane or flatbed, trailers offer true drive-away mobility — connect to a tow vehicle and set up almost anywhere. Three trailer formats covering food service, chilled storage, and frozen storage.
Containers offer a larger footprint (20ft/40ft), greater structural durability, and can be stacked or crane-positioned — better for semi-permanent deployments, mining sites, and larger catering volumes. Trailers offer true road mobility — connect to any tow vehicle, no crane required, easier to move between sites week-to-week. Food trailers are the standard format for street food and market operators. Coolroom and freezer trailers are the go-to for event cold storage where a container-format coolroom isn't practical. Many event operators use both — a container kitchen with coolroom trailers parked alongside for cold storage overflow.
Purpose-built for every scenario where a permanent bricks-and-mortar kitchen, bar, or coldroom isn't possible, practical, or cost-effective.
Music festivals, food festivals, agricultural shows, and major public events. Container kitchens and food trailers handle high-volume cooking service. Container bars create the centrepiece hospitality zone. Coolroom trailers provide chilled beverage and food storage. Ice-room trailers supply bulk bagged ice to bars and catering stations — all deployed in hours, removed when the event closes.
Fly-in/fly-out camps, remote construction sites, and resource extraction operations require fully self-contained camp catering. Container kitchens provide a weatherproof, code-compliant commercial kitchen that can be transported to any location accessible by road. Designed to operate off generator power and water bowsers where mains services are unavailable.
Delivery-only ghost kitchens without a customer-facing dining space. Container kitchens are an ideal dark kitchen format — positioned in car parks, industrial yards, or low-cost urban land, they provide a fully functional commercial kitchen in a fraction of the time and cost of a permanent restaurant fit-out. Suited to delivery platform operators and multi-brand cloud kitchen concepts.
Football, cricket, motorsport, and outdoor sporting events require large-scale food and beverage service at short notice. Container bars are the standard solution for temporary licensing zones — positioned at venue perimeters, carparks, or infield areas with branded serving windows facing the crowd.
Rotating market stalls, pop-up restaurant concepts, and brand activation events. Food trailers are the standard market operator format — hook up and go between sites week to week. Container kitchens suit operators who need a larger, more permanent-feeling setup that stays on one site for a season. Coolroom trailers provide the cold storage that neither a food trailer nor a container kitchen can always accommodate internally.
Product launches, end-of-year events, incentive experiences, and conference catering. A branded container bar or kitchen at a corporate event signals the kind of premium, considered hospitality that generic caterers cannot deliver. Container bar hire is the preferred format for one-off corporate events where setup and packdown time is critical.
Craft breweries and wineries often need temporary or semi-permanent bar and kitchen infrastructure for cellar door events, tap-room expansions, or seasonal trade. Container bars fitted with the producer's own draught system and branded to match the venue aesthetic are a popular solution for producers who need hospitality infrastructure without a permanent build.
Container kitchens are used by emergency services organisations and welfare providers to deliver hot meals in disaster-affected areas. Rapid deployment, self-contained operation, and the ability to function without permanent services make them well suited to flood, fire, or cyclone response scenarios.
The equipment specification is the difference between a container kitchen that works and one that doesn't. Underpowered cooking equipment, incorrect ventilation sizing, or refrigeration that can't hold temperature in Queensland summer heat — these are failures that happen at the procurement stage, not on-site. Industry Kitchens brings 164+ supplier accounts, a Melbourne demonstration kitchen, and deep commercial kitchen specification expertise to every container project.
Access to the full range of commercial kitchen and bar equipment brands — cooking, refrigeration, warewashing, ventilation, benches, and sinks. One supplier relationship for the entire equipment specification.
Container kitchens require the same discipline as any commercial kitchen design — workflow, clearances, ventilation sizing, electrical loads, and service access — compressed into a 20ft or 40ft footprint. We've done it before.
Industry Kitchens warehouses across Australia mean equipment can be coordinated to your container build location anywhere in the country — whether the fit-out happens in a Melbourne depot or at a regional fabricator.
IK's Melbourne HQ demonstration kitchen allows equipment to be trialled and demonstrated before it's specified into your container build. See how a combi oven, griddle, or fryer performs before it's bolted in.
Every project is custom. Here's the typical process from enquiry to deployment.
Tell us your use case, location, menu type, service volume, power and water supply situation, and timeline. The more detail you can provide at this stage, the more accurate the specification and cost estimate will be.
IK's kitchen design team works up the equipment list — cooking equipment, refrigeration, ventilation sizing, sinks and benches — matched to your menu, service volume, and container size. We'll identify the right appliances from across our 164+ supplier accounts and provide a detailed equipment schedule.
A container kitchen layout is developed — positioning equipment, sinks, benches, ventilation, and electrical within the container footprint. Serving window or shutter placement, door access, and external fit-out (awnings, branding areas) are confirmed at this stage.
The container is modified (openings, insulation, wall lining, ventilation penetrations), plumbing and electrical are roughed in, and equipment is installed and commissioned. Branding and external fit-out is completed.
The completed container kitchen or bar is transported to site by flatbed truck or crane-lifted into position. Site connections (power, water, waste) are made and the unit is ready for service. The same unit can be relocated to the next event or site when required.
A container kitchen is a fully functional commercial kitchen built inside a repurposed shipping container — typically 20ft or 40ft. The container is fitted with commercial-grade cooking equipment, a ventilation canopy and exhaust system, plumbing (sinks, hot and cold water, waste), electrical distribution, refrigeration, and food preparation surfaces. The result is a mobile, self-contained commercial kitchen that can be deployed by flatbed truck or crane to any location — events, festivals, mining camps, remote sites, or as a dark kitchen in an urban area.
A container bar is a self-contained bar service unit built inside a shipping container. Fitted with draught beer taps, refrigeration, sinks, shelving, service counters, and a serving window or roll-up shutter. Available for purchase as a permanent or semi-permanent installation, or on hire for individual events. Container bars can be branded externally to match event or venue identity and set up within hours for sporting events, festivals, corporate functions, or outdoor venues.
The most common formats are 20ft (6.1m × 2.4m) and 40ft (12.2m × 2.4m). A 20ft container suits a compact single-section kitchen, a simple fry or grill station, or a smaller pop-up café setup. A 40ft provides a full commercial kitchen footprint — cooking line, prep area, refrigeration section, and dishwashing. Modified containers including side-opening, high-cube, and open-side configurations are also available depending on the build and site requirements. Container kitchens can be fitted with the full commercial kitchen equipment range — oven ranges and cooktops (gas or electric), combi steam ovens, deep fryers, griddles, salamanders, flat-top grills, food preparation benches and sinks, under-bench refrigeration and freezers, upright refrigerators, commercial dishwashers, ventilation canopy and exhaust, water filtration, and electrical distribution boards. Industry Kitchens sources and supplies all equipment as part of the fit-out specification from across our 164+ supplier accounts.
A dark kitchen (also called a ghost kitchen or cloud kitchen) is a commercial kitchen operating delivery-only with no customer-facing dining space. Container kitchens are an ideal dark kitchen format — they can be positioned in car parks, industrial yards, or underutilised urban land without a permanent building fit-out. Council approval requirements vary by jurisdiction, but a container is generally faster and lower-cost to establish than a traditional fitout. Particularly suited to delivery platform operators and multi-brand cloud kitchen concepts testing new markets.
Yes — container kitchens are particularly well suited to remote and mining site catering. The steel construction is weather-resistant and highly durable, units are fully self-contained, and they can be transported by flatbed truck to any road-accessible location. They can be configured to operate from generator power and water bowsers where mains services are unavailable — making them ideal for fly-in/fly-out camps, remote construction sites, and resource extraction operations across Australia.
Yes — container bar hire is available for events. Hire units are delivered to site complete with taps, fridges, sinks, and service counters, and can be set up within hours. Hire is suited to one-off or recurring events where purchasing a unit outright is not justified. For ongoing or multi-event use, purchasing is generally more cost-effective over time. Contact Industry Kitchens to discuss hire availability, lead times, and configuration options for your event.
Yes — container exteriors can be painted, vinyl wrapped, or sign-written to match any brand, event, or venue identity. Serving windows, roll-up shutters, awnings, and exterior LED lighting can all be incorporated into the design. A well-presented branded container becomes a significant asset at events and markets — the container itself is the shopfront. Food trailers can also be fully branded and wrapped. Branding specifications are confirmed during the design stage of your project.
A food trailer is a mobile commercial kitchen mounted on a single or tandem-axle road trailer — towed to site by a standard tow vehicle and set up on any flat, level ground. Food trailers (also called catering trailers or mobile kitchens) are fitted with commercial cooking equipment — cooktops, ranges, fryers, griddles, ventilation canopy, sinks, benches, and refrigeration — and typically feature a serving window for customer service. They are the standard mobile kitchen format for street food operators, market stallholders, festival food vendors, and mobile catering businesses. Unlike container kitchens, food trailers require no crane or flatbed truck — they tow with any appropriately rated tow vehicle.
A coolroom trailer is a trailer-mounted insulated refrigeration unit — towed to site on a standard 50mm ball hitch and plugged into a 10A power point or 6kVA generator to operate as a mobile walk-in cool room. Available in a range of sizes (typically 4,000L–5,000L) on single or tandem-axle trailers. Fitted with internal shelving, digital thermostat, interior lighting, and a safety warning bell. They operate between 0°C and +4°C — suited to beverages, dairy, fresh produce, deli, and prepared food. Most units pre-cool to operating temperature within approximately two hours of being plugged in. Coolroom trailers are widely used at festivals, events, weddings, catering operations, agricultural shows, and as temporary storage during kitchen renovations or refrigeration failures.
An ice-room or freezer trailer is the frozen-temperature version of a coolroom trailer — same trailer format but with a commercial freezer refrigeration system operating at −18°C or below. Use an ice-room/freezer trailer when you need to store bulk bagged ice at festivals and events (for bars, food stalls, and catering), sell ice cream or gelato at markets and events, store frozen seafood or frozen meals, or maintain frozen stock during a refrigeration breakdown or kitchen renovation. The key distinction from a coolroom trailer is temperature: coolroom trailers are for chilled (+4°C) storage; freezer trailers are for frozen (−18°C) storage. Both run on standard 10A power or a generator and are towed on a standard ball hitch.
